The aim of TPMD is to share genotyping information including data of genotyped microsatellite markers, genotyping resources and laboratory supports for promoting genotyping and gene cloning of prevalent diseases. The graphic displays with integration of markers into genetic, cytogenetic and physical maps show the comparison of marker's heterozygosities in Taiwanese, Japanese, and Caucasian and facilitates the selection and download of commonly used microsatellite markers for refined mapping and positional candidate cloning of disease genes.

To enhance the quality of education, the University initiated the Teaching Development Grants (TDG) scheme in the 1994-95 academic year to encourage the development of new methods, technology, and materials in the teaching and learning process. To disseminate and share with the University community the new teaching enhancement strategies developed, the final reports of the TDG projects are now available on-line through a joint effort of the Academic Registry and the Library. For copyright reasons, full text images of the final reports are only available to HKBU staff and students on PCs linked to the University's telecommunications network.

The Thai Journal Indexing Project, based at UW Libraries, is part of a cooperative initiative of the Committee on Research Materials on Southeast Asia (a sub committee of the Association for Asian Studies) to strengthen access to vernacular journal literature from Southeast Asia. This pilot project uses scanning technology to capture an abstract, or an introductory paragraph of journal articles in Thai script. Searching access is provided by intellectual content analysis and transcription of names and titles into roman script.

The Chinese in California, 1850-1925 illustrates nineteenth and early twentieth century Chinese immigration to California from 1850 to 1925 through about 8,000 images and pages of primary source materials. Included are photographs, original art, cartoons and other illustrations; letters, excerpts from diaries, business records, and legal documents; as well as pamphlets, broadsides, speeches, sheet music, and other printed matter. These documents describe the experiences of Chinese immigrants in California, including the nature of inter-ethnic tensions. They also document the specific contributions of Chinese immigrants to commerce and business, architecture and art, agriculture and other industries, and cultural and social life in California. Chinatown in San Francisco receives special treatment as the oldest and largest community of Chinese in the United States. Also included is documentation of smaller Chinese communities throughout California, as well as material reflecting on the experiences of individuals. The materials in this online compilation are drawn from collections at The Bancroft Library, University of California Berkeley; The Ethnic Studies Library, University of California Berkeley; and The California Historical Society, San Francisco.

The years around 1900 marked the heyday of Dutch colonial rule in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia). Territories outside Java were brought under Dutch rule and the economy was thoroughly modernized. The collection consists of some 3,000 photographs from 1860 to 1940. Most of them were taken by professional photographers.
