A library of downloadable 4,000 full text books on China, Japan, Taiwan, and Korea (South and North). Also offered are audio, video, and special collections. Self-description: "The e-Asia project is funded by the University of Oregon Library through the generosity of Nissho Iwai. By building a collection of digitized e-books and a database of full text web resources, e-Asia strives to contribute to the research and scholarship of East Asia. While the e-Asia project is based largely on resources held at the University of Oregon Library, its purpose is neither to duplicate nor displace printed traditonal materials. Rather, by providing searchable full text, the digitalization efforts of e-Asia represent a new tool aimed at facilitating the information- gathering process. e-Asia has no library hours because it is available 24 hours a day on the web; there is no waiting in line at the circulation desk, and there is no check-out period for e-Asia books; the books that you download become, in effect, your books."

The East Asia Image Collection is an open-access archive of digitized photographs, negatives, postcards, and slides of imperial Japan (1868-1945), its Asian empire (1895-1945) and occupied Japan (1947-52). Images of Taiwan 台湾, Japan 日本, China 中国, Korea 朝鮮, Manchuria 満洲国, and Indonesia are included. The Collection is built around a core of visual materials donated to Skillman Library Special Collections by the family of Gerald and Rella Warner. Images unique to this collection include the Warners' unpublished slides and negatives, made from snapshots taken during their years of US State Department service in Asia (1932-1952). Rare materials include prewar picture postcards, high-quality commercial prints, and colonial era picture books. Each record in the East Asia Image Collection has been assigned subject headings, hyper-linked metadata, and, to the fullest extent possible, historiographical, bibliographical and technical data.

This database was put together by Dr. M. Ignatov in Moscow and Associate Professor Benito Tan by merging two recently published moss checklists: one for China (Redfearn et al., 1996, Journ. Hattori Bot. Lab. 79: 163-357) and another one for the Indochina (Tan and Iwatsuki, 1993, Journ. Hattori Bot. Lab. 74: 325-405). East Asia encompasses China, Mongolia, Korea, Japan and Indochina. The area covered by this database includes the highest mountain peak and the lowest land point on earth. The total moss taxa known from East Asia is more than 2,000 species, representing nearly 1/5 of the world's total moss diversity. Menu driven.
